Telkom Group Disaster Relief Service for Sinabung Disaster

To help the victims of Mount Sinabung eruption in Karo, North Sumatra, Telkom Group had prepared an Integrated Relief Center (Posko Layanan Terpadu) since last month.This post was intended to be a disaster relief services for Mount Sinabung eruption victims. Operated for 24 hours a day, this post was an anticipation of Telkom considering the increasing number of refugees over the intens eruption lately.
“Telkom Group Peduli should be able to help the eruption victims to communicate. We provide free telecommunications services,” said Telkom’s Executive General Manager Western Division, Prasabri Pesti in Jakarta, Wednesday (22/1).
Pasabri revealed that P0sko Telkom Group Peduli was equipped with communication facilities that can be used by refugees, including voice communication services (telephone) for both local and long distance calls to landline or Telkomsel’s cellular phone users. In addition, this post also offered free internet access via wifi and modem.
Further said, Telkom Group also provided Disaster Relief Services built in several places such as Masjid Agung Kabanjahe, Universitas Karo, GBKP Kabanjahe, Gereja Paroki Jl. Irian Kabanjahe, UKA Jl. Ketaren Kabanjahe, Masjid Isharah Brastagi, GBKP Brastagi, KWK (Kursus Wanita Kristen) Brastagi, GBKP Klasis Jl. Udara 199 Brastagi, and Main Disaster Relief Service DPRD Jl Veteran and Jambur Taras.
In addition, Telkom Group had also distributed donations in the form of foods and medicines directly to some evacuation shelters . Telkom Group would also provide clean water through the deployment of 5 water trucks to 9 evacuation spots during the next 60 days. “6,500 liters per car,” added Prasabri.
The 9 evacuation spots were located in Masjid Agung Kabanjahe, Jln. Veteran, Paroki Jln. Irian, GBKP simp-6 Jln. Mariam Ginting, Gereja Katepul Jln. Katepul Kabanjahe, UKA-1 Ds. Ketaren, UKA-2 Ds Ketaren, Masjid Isahrar, Jl. Mejuah-Juah Berastagi, Jambur/Los Ds. Sempajaya, Peceren dan di GBKP Kota Kabanjahe.
In addition to providing free telecommunication services, Telkom Group also provided other assistance to ease the burden of the people, including the provision of television set in refugee shelters, antennas, fast food and drinks, rice packets, as well as medicines.
Telkom Group had also made sure that the telecommunications services were not impaired. Telkomsel Network Operation team continuously monitored the performance of 140 BTS that covers   Kabanjahe and surrounding areas.Telkomsel, as a subsidiary of Telkom, had to be able to give its best service to customers especially around Mount Sinabung area.
